The Golden Visa Program gives residence permits to foreigners who wish to invest in Portugal, allowing the investor to enter, live, work and study in Portugal, as well as to travel freely in Europe (Schengen Area).<\/strong><\/p>\n

Under the Golden Visa Program, non-EU citizens only need to make one of the investments defined by law to qualify for a residence permit in Portugal:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Real Estate Investments to Qualify for the Gold Visa:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  • Acquire any property for the amount of \u20ac 500.000 or higher<\/strong><\/li>\n
  • Acquire a property for the amount of \u20ac 350.000 or higher, including the cost of renovation, constructed at least 30 years ago and located in an area of urban regeneration<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The authorization may be extended to the family of the investor and after the initial period of 5 years the residence permit may be granted on a permanent basis.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

    This regime was introduced in 2009 to attract individuals and their families to Portugal by making it beneficial from a tax perspective.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    NHR status can result in salaries, pensions, dividends, tax on interest and investment income originating in a non-Portuguese source being exempt from, or being subject to a preferential rate of income tax.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The only requirement to benefit from the NHR status is become a Portuguese tax resident, not having been a Portuguese tax resident in the previous 5 years.<\/strong><\/p>\n

    The NHR status can be maintained for 10 years.<\/strong><\/p>\n
